Indian American author, public speaker and advocate of alternative medicine. And he sees women as the leaders of that charge.

As the keynote speaker at the S.H.E. Summit, a women’s empowerment event held in in New York this week, Chopra emphasized that women possess some of the most important traits needed to succeed in business: empathy, tenderness and affection. Without these characteristics, Chopra argued, wisdom cannot exist.

He pointed out that the limbic portion of the brain, which is deeply connected to emotions, is more developed in women. The reptilian side of the brain, which controls more primitive functions, was rightly dominant in the days of hunter gatherers. In the modern era, however, success comes from “the incarnation of the divine feminine,” or more people embodying female traits. “It embraces truth, goodness and beauty,” Chopra said.

Borrowing from the work of Greek author Agapi Stassinopoulos, Chopra said he sees women as the embodiment of seven Greek goddesses: Demeter, Athena, Aphrodite, Artemis, Persephone, Hera and Hestia. These seven women, who represent traits ranging from power to motherhood to wisdom, signify the best charactertistics of the feminine spirit.

“Imagine a government with a cabinet like this,” he said. “We could dream a new world into actuality, a more sustainable, kind, nurturing world.”
