Entrepreneurs expect to work longer hours than anyone else, but they also know that they have to fuel that success.
If you are an entrepreneur, you probably view the weekend as two extra days to get shit done. The weekends for an entrepreneur aren’t days away from the office. When you are in control of your business’s fate, your office follows you wherever you go. Entrepreneurs approach the weekend with a different mindset. They value the extra time as an opportunity to get ahead rather than hours to waste before Monday morning rolls around.
1. Get up early
Successful people do not stay in bed until 2 p.m. on a Sunday. Or even 11 a.m. Research shows that our brains are sharpest two and a half to four hours after waking. Get up early on a weekend and you’ve got a head start on the rest of the world.
2. Plan your week ahead
The successful entrepreneur doesn’t wait until Monday morning to plan for the week. Sunday is the perfect day to sit down and draw a plan. After spending time reflecting on the prior week, you will have a good idea of what you need and want to accomplish.
Use this time to schedule important tasks, phone calls and face-to-face meetings that align with your goals. Planning out the entire week ahead as much as reasonably possible guards against missed opportunities and costly errors.
3. Minimize chores
Outsourcing your housecleaning or laundry can free up a lot of time on your weekends. If you’re in a financial place to get your chores done by someone else, hire someone immediately.
If you’re not yet to that place, keep your chores to-do list as short as possible and complete them as quickly as you can. Keep the mindset that they are things that need to be done, but you don’t want to focus your entire weekend on shopping and cleaning.
What did you do well this past week and what did you do wrong? How will you be better in the week ahead? Reflecting on the past week offers the successful entrepreneur the opportunity to determine which activities to continue and which to let go.
Reflection is a valuable investment of your time that will help you set the goals that will get you to the next level of success during the upcoming week.
5. Spend time in solitude
It gives you a chance to think, sort out problems and plan where you want to be in the future. This can be an excellent opportunity to free write or journal. Experts agree that free writing during regular scheduled times can lead to answers to problems, discovering new goals and insight into your direction for the future.
Your weekend should have a bit of socialising in it too. Interacting with your friends and family can help relieve some stress and give you a clearer perspective about the tasks you need to complete.
Plan an event with your friends, take your girlfriend out to dinner, or visit your parents. Any time you are able to interact with individuals who encourage and support you will allow you to return to your work refreshed and ready to go.
7. Find a recharge ritual
As entrepreneurs, we’re always working. We’re always implementing new strategies, thinking about new theories, or connecting with potential clients or partners. Even if you’re following your passion, constant working can be draining.
Do an activity where work isn’t the main focus. Play a sport, go for a run, or read a book. When you let your mind wander away from the stresses of your business, you allow your creative juices to flow and you can tackle the problem with a fresh perspective.
8. Give back
Successful people agree with Anne Frank: “No one has ever become poor from giving.” Tom Corley studied the rich for five years before writing his book “Wealthy Habits: The Daily Success Habits of Wealthy Individuals.” He found that 73% of wealthy people volunteer for five or more hours per month. Nothing helps put things in perspective and reduce stress more than helping those less fortunate. Weekends are a great time to get involved in local and community volunteer events.
9. Don’t multi-task
Multi-tasking is so 2005. It may be tempting to maximize your weekend productivity by running on the treadmill while calling your mother and trolling your newsfeed, but successful people know that this just reduces efficiency and effectiveness.
Instead, be present for each single activity. Tim Ferris recommends a maximum of two goals or tasks per day to ensure productivity and accomplishments align.
10. No devices for a day
Take a Saturday or Sunday and choose to unplug. Taking a break from your devices for a day is beneficial both mentally and physically. Constantly being connected and checking email, social media and the places you visit online can drain both your energy and your creativity.
Choosing to release the hyper vigilance of being constantly connected creates allows you to live life in real time, resulting in fresh perspectives and a boost in productivity.
