Shiprock, called Tse Bitai (“the winged rock” in Navajo), is a prominent volcanic feature in the NW New Mexico landscape,

stands 600 meters high, and is 500 meters in diameter today. From this vantage one can see some feeder dykes that moved magma toward the volcanic neck. These landforms are remnants of an explosive volcanic eruption that occurred ~30 million years ago.
