The Dancers of Shakti Temple focuses on the idea of sacred dance,
and the Sacred Song focuses on the voice and the implementation of the voice in ritual. Likewise, the Dawn Chariot focuses on an aspect that it considers sacred, in this case–sexuality.
Sexuality is one of the most intimate expressions of divinity, and in contrast to the book religions the Pagan religions generally view the body as being good and holy, a perfect creation of Deity and a beautiful home for the soul. The body is an emanation and reflection of the soul, it takes its form from the characteristics and experiences of the soul, and thus sexuality is one way in which the soul can experience the flesh.
Sexuality holds an honored role in Wiccan culture. The exact nature of that role varies widely, most Wiccans are commonly familiar with the polarity of femininity and masculinity. In some Traditions it’s mandatory to have a male/female partnership to create magic. However, the Correllian Tradition recognizes all forms of polarity, not just the feminine and masculine. As such, working partners can be male/female, female/female or male/male. Divinity, in itself, and it’s polarity is generally perceived as male and female, however, there is no reasons why it cannot be expressed in a male/male or female/female preference.
The Correllian Tradition is hereditary in origin, as such, the reflected view of sexuality is hereditary sensible. We honor the idea of skyclad practice and venerate the spiritual beauty of the body, and sexuality in all its forms it comes in, but as a rule we do not practice skyclad ritual except in private. The Correllian Tradition considers the sexual mysteries to be holy and honorable, but also a matter for private practice. It is not that we, the Correllians, disapprove of either of these things; on the contrary, both are very positive, liberating and uplifting aspects of our religion. Rather, it is that the Correllian Tradition is a familiar tradition and observe a difference between public and private sensibilities and responsibilities.
Holding to Correllian views, sexuality is a very subjective and personal thing. In practice, the Correllian Tradition has always held that whatever consenting adults want to do is their own business and not really anyone’s else place to judge.
Love, and also passion, is a function of the soul, while reproduction is a function of the body. The soul is neither male nor female, and has many lifetimes as both during its long existence. Consequently, each individual has his or her own elements of both polarities within them. These are balanced differently in each individual, and so must be allowed to be expressed differently and uniquely to that individual.
As a Tradition, the Correllians have no problem with issues of sexual orientation or gender identification. We support all kinds of unions, including same-sex marriage. These are all matters of individual choices. They are right for some people, not right for others, but they are not harming anyone–so they are entitled to do as they will.
As such, it’s the responsibility of the Dawn Chariot to embrace and accept all forms of sexuality between two consenting adults, and to help those who may be struggling to come to terms with their own sexual identity, we embrace the ideas that divinity is not strictly male or female and the polarity of yin and yang can be expressed in various others ways than the tradition male/female partnership of the God and Goddess. The Dawn Chariot embraces sexuality as something sacred, and something worthy to be explored and understood for each individual. Whether straight, gay, bisexual, poly-amorous, transgendered etc.
