Clear Your Mind, Calm the World – Lama Lakshey Zangpo

by Lama Lakshey Zangpo: We live in a world that often feels like a storm. It is loud and fast, constantly demanding our attention, our reaction, and our energy.

Clear Your Mind, Calm the World-awaken When we look at the turbulence around us, our natural instinct is to try to fix it by fighting noise with more noise. We want to calm the world by changing everything outside of ourselves. But true stability doesn’t work from the outside in. It works from the inside out. We can explore a simple but radical idea: to calm the world, we must first find a clear mind.Imagine the mind as the surface of a mountain lake. When the wind blows and the water is choppy, the lake cannot reflect anything accurately. The sky, the trees, and the mountains look fragmented, distorted, and chaotic. If you look into turbulent water, you cannot even see your own reflection. When our minds are crowded with anticipation, anxiety, or judgment, we are like that choppy lake. We don’t see the world as it is; we see the world through the distortion of our own agitation.

A clear mind is not a mind that is completely empty of thoughts. Rather, it is a mind that has stopped fighting its thoughts. It is like the lake when the wind dies down. The water becomes still, and suddenly, it acts as a perfect mirror. It reflects the sky exactly as it is, without distortion. When the mind is clear, we see situations with precision. We see people with empathy. We respond rather than react. There is an old Tibetan saying that if you want to clear muddy water, you don’t stir it. You don’t force the dirt to move. You simply leave it alone, and it settles on its own. Having a clear mind requires that same willingness to let things settle. It means taking a breath, stepping back from the immediate urge to react, and allowing the natural clarity of your awareness to surface. When you sit in a room and cultivate that inner quiet, something remarkable happens. You change the chemistry of the room.

We often underestimate how contagious our internal state is. Just as one person’s panic can ripple through a crowd, one person’s stillness can anchor an entire room. “Calming the world” does not mean we have to solve every global crisis by tonight. It means we commit to being a point of stillness in whatever environment we enter. When you speak from a place of clarity, your words carry weight. When you listen from a place of stillness, you give the other person permission to drop their defenses. By bringing a clear mind to your family, your workplace, or your community, you begin to quiet the storm around you. You become the quiet room that others can step into. Let us take a moment right now to simply let the wind die down, let the mud settle, and discover the clarity that is already here
