“It’s the ultimate vision quest: nine weeks in a coma following a heart attack….This is a powerful look into the metaphysical life of a spiritual teacher. It provides insight into ancient Toltec wisdom that is seldom available in written form, or to the uninitiated.” –Anna Jedrziewski, Retailing Insight

THE TOLTEC ART OF LIFE AND DEATH A Story of Discovery By Don Miguel Ruiz and Barbara Emrys One of the foremost spiritual teachers of our time, Don Miguel Ruiz first introduced us to Toltec wisdom in The Four Agreements, which has sold over five million copies in the U.S. and more than seven million globally, and spent seven years on The New York Times bestseller list. In each of his previous books Don Miguel distilled ancient Toltec wisdom to simple practices and principles. Now, in his groundbreaking new work, THE TOLTEC ART OF LIFE AND DEATH: A Story of Discovery (HarperElixir; October 27, 2015; Hardcover), he offers the equivalent of his master class, revealing teachings on a deeper level which he has previously shared exclusively with a close circle of students in lectures and at sacred sites in Mexico and around the world. In 2002, Don Miguel suffered a near-fatal heart attack that left him in a coma for nine weeks. During this period, as he lay suspended in a dream state between life and death, he traveled on a mystical journey of self-discovery, his spirit encountering the people, events and ideas that shaped him and his life’s work. For the first time, Ruiz shares the story of his journey and the lessons he learned in THE TOLTEC ART OF LIFE AND DEATH. Among the insights he gleans and we learn from are the nature of our own life’s calling, that we are often seduced by knowledge that blocks us from truth, and that ultimately each one of us is filled with endless potential to change, grow, and love and to take control and to shape our own destiny.

This ‘story of discovery’ is the culmination of an incredible interior journey and a lifetime of learning. Written with the help of long-time student Barbara Emrys, the book provides a mystical, compelling, and profound exploration into the spiritual formation of this beloved global figure and teacher. THE TOLTEC ART OF LIFE AND DEATH delivers wisdom steeped in Toltec philosophy, experienced through the life and death experience of a master teacher.
