addressing hundreds of SUCCESS Live attendees in Long Beach. At first it sounds odd, almost like an old saying that just got turned on its head. But as the founder of Ferrazzi Greenlight, a research institute that studies human behavior, he has the numbers to prove it.

When you make a commitment to someone, a genuine promise that you’re going to do what you say you’ll do, Ferrazzi’s research says the chance of you keeping your word increases by 30 percent. Other times, we know what we need to do, but struggle to make it happen alone. He says the 30 percent success hike that people enjoy in collaborations is the power of relationships.

More research showed an even better tipping point for success. Ferrazzi says it pays to have three people in your life who won’t let you fail. But 60 percent of Americans say that no one has their back.

For those who do, Ferrazzi says these supporters show up in four major ways:

1. They care about you.

2. They work to make you successful by understanding you.

3. They’re honest with you.

4. They hold you accountable for your actions.
