by Dr. Ramdesh: “I hear Kundalini Yoga is good for sex“…
Time and time again, you overhear someone say this in Kundalini yoga classes. The connection between Kundalini Yoga and sexuality is one of the main points of interest for many beginners to the practice. Some talk about Kundalini rising as a kind of orgasm. Others confuse “red” tantra (which is a sexual practice) with the practice of White Tantric Yoga (which is not).
Sexual energy is the most powerful energy in the body. It creates life. While some other yogic traditions recommend renunciation of sexual energy, Kundalini Yoga embraces it. Techniques in Kundalini Yoga are designed to channel sexual energy up the spine, through pranayama, asana, and meditation, to where it can be used for spiritual development.
Let’s cut to the chase about Kundalini Yoga and sex. Kundalini Yoga is good for improving your sex life, but there is a lot of misinformation out there.
The truth is this: Kundalini Yoga is good for moving all of the energies in your body, which naturally includes sexual energy. It’s worth saying that the point of Kundalini Yoga is not good sex, but good sex is a pleasant side effect of the practice. It is also worth saying that Yogi Bhajan was not an advocate of random or casual sexual encounters. He felt that sex was the holiest of holies and should be reserved for committed relationships (which meant marriage).
Sacred sex is love in action. Treat yourself and your partner like the sacred temples of the divine that you really are. Treat sex like the avenue for blissful union it deserves to be.
Doing yoga together as a couple is one of the most profound ways to enhance your relationship.Venus kriyas are completed actions done by couples to unify the energy polarities between them. By using specific asana, mudra, pranayam and meditations to sync your energies with your partner, you create a powerful bond between the two of you that transcends your physical body. You prepare your souls to merge. When you do finally have sex, your physical bodies are prepared to truly make love.
Five Powerful Venus Kriyas
*Venus Kriyas should be practiced for 3 minutes only. A good guideline is not to practice more than one Venus Kriya per hour.
*Before beginning a kriya, always “Tune In” by chanting Ong Namo, Guru Dev Namo three times while holding your hands in prayer pose at the chest.
*Venus Kriyas are best done after a regular Kundalini yoga practice.
*Keep your thoughts pure and elevated. Do not try to seduce another using a Venus Kriya or they lose effectiveness.
1) Sending Prana
Sit in Rock Pose on the heels close enough so that you can touch palms with your partner while maintaining a straight arm. Touch both palms flat together. Look into each other’s eyes. Try not to blink. Send prana (life force) through your hands and eyes. Continue for 2 minutes. Then close your eyes and visualize your partner for 1 minute.
2) Shiva-Shakti Pose
Stand and face your partner. Clasp the left hands and raise the right hands. Both arms are parallel to the ground. Lift up the left leg and balance. Look into each other’s eyes. Become Shiva and Shakti (the God and the Goddess). Imagine yourself dancing together in the heavens.
3) Venus Back Rolls
Sit with your back to your partner. Inhale, exhale and bow down as your partner rolls and relaxes on your back. Inhale and as you exhale reverse positions, with the partner who had first rolled back now bowing down to the ground. This helps establish psychic connection at the same time as loosening up the back and hips.
4) Touching Fingertips
Sit in Rock Pose on heels, knees touching. Raise arms up 60 degrees and touch fingertips. Stare into your partner’s eyes and project love. Hold for 3 minutes. Then inhale and hold the breath for 10 seconds and then exhale, holding the breath out for 10 seconds.
5) Venus Triangle (for ending arguments)
Get into triangle pose (downward facing dog) with the back of your heels touching the back of your partner’s. Keep your knees and elbows straight. Gaze through your legs and into your partner’s eyes. Hold the position.
One Caveat in the practice of Kundalini Yoga for Sacred Sex:
Do not be ruled by lust. If your energies are stuck in the second chakra, the pursuit of sex will rule your life, and the energy will be unable to move up the spine, allowing you to have truly expansive spiritual experiences. Consider using Sat Kriya or Frog Pose to channel stagnant energy up and out of the second chakra, so that you can be in control of your sexual energies, rather than having them be in control of you.
